How to Have a Lunchtime Reset @mebykatie

Lunch breaks tend to be overlooked, rushed, or even forgotten in the busy flow of workdays. But it doesn't have to be that way -- let me introduce you to what I like to call the "Lunchtime Reset."

This concept transforms your midday pause into something beyond a quick bite—an opportunity to feed your body, clear your mind, and boost your spirits. Let's discuss some practical steps to make your lunch break a time for health and renewal, positively influencing how the rest of your day unfolds.

The Core of Your Lunch Break

Meal prepping can be a game changer. Dedicate time on the weekend to prepare balanced meals packed with vegetables, lean proteins, healthy fats, and whole grains. This plan saves time and ensures you have nutritious options readily available. Slow down and focus on your meal. Eating mindfully helps in better digestion, recognizing hunger cues, and enjoying the flavors more intensely.

De-Stress and Recharge

Change your environment. Eating at your desk can blur the lines between work and break time. Find a different spot, perhaps outdoors, to create a clear distinction. Even 5-10 minutes of meditation or guided breathing can significantly reduce stress and boost mood. There are numerous apps available to guide you through these practices.

A Midday Movement Boost

A brisk walk during your lunch break is good for digestion and an excellent way to clear your mind. It boosts endorphins, which can increase your afternoon productivity. Consider a short stretching or yoga routine if a walk isn't possible. This activity can be especially beneficial for those with sedentary jobs to alleviate muscle stiffness and improve circulation.

Connection

Occasionally, have lunch with your colleagues. It can strengthen work relationships and provide a mental break from the routine tasks of your job. A quick call or text to a loved one can be uplifting and a great way to use your break for emotional rejuvenation.

A Moment for Reflection

Spend a few minutes writing down things you are grateful for. This practice fosters positivity and can shift your mindset for the rest of the day.

Setting Intentions

Before you end your break, take a moment to list out what you want to accomplish in the remainder of the day. This step helps in refocusing and prioritizing tasks.

Your lunch break is more than just a time to eat. It's an opportunity for a holistic reset - physically, mentally, and emotionally. Incorporating these practices into your daily routine can enhance your overall well-being and effectiveness in both personal and professional spheres. Remember, consistent small changes lead to significant long-term benefits.
