What are Corrective Serums

Serums are an important topical treatment of highly concentrated active ingredients that powerfully target different skin concerns, containing a mix of potent antioxidants, vitamins, peptides, and moisturizing agents into the skin. Though they tend to be more expensive than other skincare products, a little goes a long way so more bang for your buck.

Only a serum can penetrate the many layers of the skin as they are light and absorb quickly and easy to layer with your skincare regimen. A serum won’t replace your daytime or nighttime moisturizer, but it will boost your anti-aging, acne, or redness results and overall skin health when used morning and evening. A nourishing moisturizer will help protect and keep the good stuff of your serum intact and fortify the surface of the skin, bind skin cells together more effectively, and work at the surface of the skin to increase hydration. Finding a good corrective serum is akin to starting a long-term relationship—the real benefits come from sticking with your serum day in and day out.

Choosing the right ingredients for your skin type:

  • Vitamin C - an antioxidant, increases collagen production, enhances that youthful look helps to boost rejuvenation, and improves skin tone and radiance. enhances skin’s repair process and reduces inflammation.
  • Retinol - an antioxidant, reduces inflammation, speeds up cellular turnover, plumps up the skin, minimizing the look of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Zinc - an antioxidant that soothes irritation and regulates oil production.
  • Salicylic Acid - an anti-inflammatory beta-hydroxy acid that promotes exfoliation to unclog pores.
  • Vitamin E - great for dry skin, an antioxidant, protects cells from oxidative damage Niacinamide - improves skin elasticity, increases ceramide levels in the skin.
  • Glycolic Acid - an alpha-hydroxy acid and humectant that gently exfoliates and lightens discoloration
  • Hyaluronic Acid - it moisturizes, plumps, and helps skin to retain moisture.
  • Peptides - antioxidants that smooth and improve the texture of the skin. The building blocks of collagen and other proteins, so they play a key role in keeping skin looking fresh and amazing.
  • Epidermal Growth Factors – EGF’s restore younger-looking skin by stimulating collagen production which reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and boosting hydration.

If you're new to serums, the experience can be daunting. Apply corrective serums after cleansing and toning and before moisturizing, sunscreen is your last step in the morning. Once your face is clean and balanced, a serum can then effectively do its job, whether it's to exfoliate, hydrate, or brighten. There are no rules against how many corrective serums you can add to your daily skincare routine, and you can stack two or more formulas to get the results you’re looking for.

While you will likely see some improvements right away, over the long term you’ll see signs of damage fade, and skin will look and feel healthier and firmer, too!
